Guardians of the Galaxy's Zoe Saldana Shares First Look at Gamora in Vol. 3

Zoe Saldana gave fans a quick glimpse of what appears to be a first look at Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with a set photo showing herself in the makeup and prosthetics process.

Saldana posted the photo to Instagram along with a number of other selfies alongside the caption, "The many [faces of 2021]. #gamora #neytiri #setlife #mom #wife #tired #coño." The first image of the bunch shows the actor in Gamora's hallmark green skin and unique face lines.

In addition to reprising her role as Gamora in Guardians 3, Saldana will reprise her role as Neytiri, of the blue-hued Na'vi aliens, in James Cameron's Avatar 2. As Neytiri is visually a creation of motion capture and CGI, and Saldana filmed for the role in 2018, Saldana would not be able to post a selfie of herself as the character as part of a 2021 compilation.

In the Gamora set pic, Saldana's natural skin can be seen unpainted on her shoulder and upper chest, indicating the photo was taken after makeup and prosthetics but before costuming. With no new outfit or any further context, this first look at Gamora's next MCU outing gives no hints of what is to come for the character.

The original Gamora who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was murdered by Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Infinity War, subsequently being replaced by her past self past in Avengers: Endgame. This new Gamora, with no memories of her alternate future self's time with the Guardians or burgeoning romance with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), walked away from the battlefield alone after Thanos' ultimate defeat.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 began filming late in 2021 on Nov. 8 and is set to wrap in April of 2022. The threequel will portray the rest of the Guardians' search for Gamora, but only after they take a detour with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. While Saldana is not listed as a cast member in the fourth Thor movie, her "faces of 2021" post does not specify that her Gamora makeup is from the third Guardians set, and Love and Thunder started and finished all of its filming in 2021. It can't be ruled out that Saldana was on-set for a Thor cameo just yet, though we'll have to wait and see if she actually pops up in Love and Thunder. Meanwhile, Disney+'s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has yet to enter production.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated for release on May 5, 2023.
