Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been cast as Kraven the Hunter in Sony Picture's upcoming Marvel film.
A release date has also been set for Kraven the Hunter, with the J.C. Chandor-directed film scheduled for Jan. 13, 2023. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing, with the screenplay written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk.
Rumors of a Kraven the Hunter feature film started in 2017, following the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, a joint venture between Sony and Marvel Studios. J.C. Chandor, director of the Netflix film Triple Frontier, was reportedly tapped to helm Kraven the Hunter in 2020.
Keanu Reeves was reportedly approached and offered the Kraven role, though shortly thereafter news came out that Reeves passed on the Kraven project.
Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Kraven debuted in 1964's The Amazing Spider-Man #15. Known as a big game hunter, Kraven saw Spider-Man as his next target to prove he was the greatest hunter in the world. The character is best known from the 1987 storyline "Kraven's Last Hunt."
Kraven the Hunter joins other Sony Marvel projects including the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius, with films centered on Nightwatch, Madame Web, Jackpot and Spider-Woman reportedly in development.
Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The film arrives in theaters Jan. 13, 2023.
