Marvel Relaunches Amazing Spider-Man With a New #1

In time for the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man's debut, Marvel announced the relaunch of Amazing Spider-Man.

For the new volume of Amazing Spider-Man, writer Zeb Wells and artist John Romita Jr are at the helm. Marvel teased Wells and Romita Jr.'s run will bring all of the classic elements fans love, along with surprising new takes on classic supervillains from Spider-Man's rogues gallery.

While the details remain largely unknown, Marvel teased, "Peter's on the outs with the FF. He's on the outs with the Avengers. He's even on the outs with Aunt May! After a terrible and mysterious incident, no one wants to see Spider-Man – except for Doctor Octopus. Ock's on Spider-Man's tail and the Master Planner has something truly terrible planned for when he gets his tentacles on Spidey. All that, and Tombstone makes a move that will remind readers why he's one of Spider-Man's most terrifying villains…"

The new run will also see Peter Parker separated from all of his allies and even his closest family. The new comic book series will raise the question, "What did Spider-Man do?" Amazing Spider-Man editor Nick Lowe said, "Spider-Man doesn't turn sixty every year." He continued, "and we are going BIG with this run cramming it with the biggest WTF moments Spidey has ever had. Zeb and JRJR will go down in history as one of the best creative teams ever!"

Wells -- who is notable for shaping the famed "Shed" storyline, paving the way for the iconic Civil War crossover event and the ongoing "Beyond" era -- expressed excitement over the opportunity to work with Romita Jr. He stated, "I've waited my entire career to work with John Romita Jr.... To team up with him on Amazing Spider-Man for the character's 60th anniversary is so exciting words can't describe it. We're gonna have a blast!"

Romita Jr., son of the famed Amazing Spider-Man artist John Romita Sr., recalled how the character impacted him and the role his father played in shaping his ongoing enthusiasm for the superhero. "Ever since my father told my brother and me that Spider-Man/Peter Parker lived close to our home in Queens, NYC, we were hooked!" Romita Jr. said. "We talked Spider Man on long drives to family get-togethers, and it was as if we had an extra family member!"

Amazing Spider-Man #1 is set to hit shelves this April.
