Miles Morales Live-Action Spider-Man Movie In Active Development

According to a new rumor, Miles Morales may soon be jumping into the live-action Spider-Verse.

Industry scooper Daniel Richtman posted on his Patreon that Sony is actively developing a film starring Miles. No further details have been revealed, but it's hardly the first time the rumors have swirled. Spider-Man: Homecoming features a nod to Miles when Donald Glover's Aaron Davis mentioned his nephew, and Miles-centric media has been coming more frequently over the past few years, from his starring role in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to the video game Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Created by  Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales debuted in 2011's Ultimate Fallout #4 before landing his own lines of books. Part of the Ultimate Universe, he took over as Spider-Man after Peter Parker was killed by Green Goblin. Miles was also bitten by a genetically altered spider, gaining all of Spider-Man's ability along with invisibility and a delayed electric shock power. His popularity would see him hop over to the main Marvel universe after the collapse of the Ultimate Universe during the Secret Wars event in 2015.

With Spider-Man: No Way Home introducing the multiverse to the MCU films -- and possibly including former Spider-Men -- fans have wondered whether the movie could introduce Miles properly. Tom Holland recently teased as much, saying it might be time for the young hero to assume the mantle.

"Maybe it is time for me to move on," Holland said in a recent interview. "Maybe what's best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life. If I'm playing Spider-Man after I'm 30, I've done something wrong."

Sony has slowly been building out its own Spider-Man franchise, with two Venom films and Into the Spider-Verse already making a name for the burgeoning shared universe. Morbius arrives next year, and an Into the Spider-Verse sequel will give audiences more Miles. Sony is also working on a Kraven the Hunter film, an Olivia Wilde-directed project (rumored to be Spider-Woman), and a Silk TV show. With all that in mind, a live-action film featuring one of Marvel's most popular web-slingers isn't hard to imagine.

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives Dec. 17 in theaters.
